What Scroll Hush does
Scroll Hush sits between you and the social apps you choose to monitor. It is not a blocker that locks you out by default, and it is not just a timer that warns you at the end of the day. It combines four things:
- An intentional opening flow. A short pause, then two quick choices: why you are opening the app and how long you plan to stay.
- Limits you configure. Daily time, maximum session length, sessions per day, minimum breaks between visits, Quiet Hours and optional grace periods, shared across apps or set per app.
- Reports. Time by app, daily use, opening reasons, intervals between visits, hourly patterns, and planned time compared with recorded time.
- Alternatives. A built-in reader with classic titles, guided meditations and short stretches for the moments you decide not to scroll.
How it works, step by step
- Choose your apps. Select which supported apps to monitor. You can change the selection later.
- Grant the Android access each feature needs. Usage Access for reports and usage-based limits; Accessibility for Launch Protection, which detects when a monitored app opens; Display over other apps for session notices.
- Open an app as usual. When Launch Protection detects a monitored app, Scroll Hush brings you to the opening flow first.
- Pause, choose a reason and a planned time. The reasons are: reply to someone, post something, check something specific, entertainment, or no specific reason.
- Continue or choose something else. The social app opens normally, or you pick read, meditate or stretch.
- Review your patterns. Reports show which reasons lead to longer sessions and how often visits stay within the time you planned.
Supported apps
The current Android version can monitor Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X, Threads, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Discord, Messenger and WhatsApp, when they are installed on your phone. Monitoring an app does not give Scroll Hush access to your account inside it.
How it compares with other approaches
| Android Digital Wellbeing | Typical app blocker | Scroll Hush | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily app limits | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Pause before opening | No | Some | Yes |
| Reason and planned time per visit | No | Rarely | Yes |
| Maximum session length | No | Some | Yes |
| Minimum break between visits | No | Some | Yes |
| Reports by opening reason | No | Rarely | Yes |
| Built-in alternatives to scrolling | No | No | Read, meditate, stretch |
Digital Wellbeing is free and may be all you need if a daily cap works for you. Scroll Hush is for people whose problem is the automatic opening and the session that runs long. For a deeper comparison, see app blockers vs intentional use.
What Scroll Hush does not do
Being clear about limits matters, especially for an app that asks for powerful permissions:
- It is Android only. There is no iPhone version.
- It does not read your feed, posts or messages. Accessibility is used only to identify which app is in the foreground. Scroll Hush does not read, store or send on-screen text or anything you type.
- It does not include advertising SDKs or sell your usage history. If you sign in, a copy of your Scroll Hush data is saved to your account so it can be restored on a new device, and you can delete it from the app.
- It cannot guarantee every opening is intercepted. Detection depends on Android, the permissions you keep granted, battery restrictions and your device’s manufacturer settings.
- It is not a parental control or a security tool. Its limits are self-management controls for your own device.
- It is not a treatment. Reports, the self-assessment and quiet-time points are information, not clinical measures.

Who it is for
Scroll Hush is a good fit if you:
- open social apps automatically, many times a day;
- want to keep using social media for messages, work or friends;
- find that daily timers come too late, after a long session has already happened;
- like seeing data about your own habits.
It is probably not what you need if you want a hard lock that you cannot bypass, a tool to supervise someone else’s phone, or an app for iPhone.
Frequently asked questions
Does Scroll Hush block apps?
It can enforce the limits you configure, with soft or stricter settings, but its main approach is a pause and a choice before opening rather than a permanent block.
Does Scroll Hush work on iPhone?
No. Scroll Hush is available for Android only.
Which Android permissions does Scroll Hush need?
Usage Access, Accessibility and Display over other apps, plus notifications for its own notices. You decide which to grant and can revoke them in Android settings; features that depend on a revoked permission stop working.
Can I still use Instagram and TikTok normally?
Yes. After the opening flow, the app opens normally with your feed, messages and account unchanged.
